Cable Industry May Lose 5 Million More Customers in 2022

Cord Cutters are Facing Content Overload with All The Great Streaming TV Sites Available

Cable Industry Facing Massive Subscriber Loss

The cable industry is struggling to survive. They are facing massive competition from the streaming TV industry. Something that was pretty much unheard of 10-15 years ago. For generations, Cable TV enjoyed undeterred dominance in TV entertainment.

But in the last few years, they have seen their very profitable business model circling the drain. Both free and paid streaming TV services have had a dramatic impact on their subscriber numbers. With millions jumping ship year after year, who want more freedom over their content, freedom from endless commercials, and freedom to choose from many streaming TV providers. And most of all, freedom from those expensive monthly bills which keep going up every year.

Here's The Strange Part

According to Market research outfit eMarketer, 73% of former cable TV subscribers are cutting the cord, but then subscribe to a streaming TV version of the same cable TV channels.

Some cable channels like sports, are still not as easy to watch on alternative streaming services. Or are only part of cable TV channel bundles offered by YouTube, Hulu, Dish, AT&T, and FuboTV.

While live streaming packages still cost less than those offered from cable providers like Charter, Cox, and Comcast. Live streaming TV costs are also creeping higher every year. Until cord cutters can fully let go of the cable TV bundle in favor of Free streaming channels and other commercial on-demand streaming services. They won't achieve the full benefit of lower prices with more available content.

You can't blame them though because changing a lifelong habit is hard. And for many, until they experience binging entire seasons one after another commercial free. They won't understand how nice it is to live without cable TV entirely.

Cable Industry Still Has a Respectable Subscriber Base

While they expect 5 million more subscribers to cut the cord in 2022, the cable TV industry still has over 77 million subscribers. But if they keep losing millions of customers like they did the last three years, in 15 more years, their time here may end. This could happen sooner or maybe take a little longer depending on what changes they make to their business model.

One thing's for certain, if the future is any sign of the past three years. The steady torrent of subscribers canceling their cable TV bill will more than like continue at a steady pace.
