Android TV users can now add Apps from Smartphones

Google just added the ability for Android TV users to add Apps from Smartphones

Now Android apps can be installed right onto an Android TV Media streamer from your phone

Anyone that has sideloaded apps on an Android TV media streamer like the amazing Nvidia SHIELD knows it's not always easy. Especially if you download it to another device like a PC or smartphone.

In the past, one way of moving sideloaded apps over from these devices to your Android Media Player is to use an FTP app. This opens an FTP server on Android TV that you can then connect to with a corresponding FTP app on your phone or computer. While this works pretty well, Google has now made it even easier to add Android apps to Android TV by installing them directly from a Smartphone.

While this new method recently discovered by a Reddit poster, won't help with sideloaded apps from an unofficial Play Store. Official apps can now be installed directly to Android TV devices from the Google Play Store using your Android phone.

How to Install Android TV Apps from Your Phone

While they have not officially rolled this out to the Android masses, so your Android phone may not yet see this feature while testing is taking place, the person who discovered this feature posted a screenshot in Imgur.

If you notice in the photo, there is an option under Available on More Devices to install the app directly to an Android TV in a bedroom.
This will make it easy to browse the Google Play Store and directly install apps to an Android TV device right from your phone. Roku has offered this feature for a long time now. It's nice to see Google finally catch up and offer this feature to their users as well.

It's still only available to a few users for now. But hopefully, soon all Android Smartphone users will see this feature soon as Google makes it more widely available. Once the testing phase is complete and no issues or bugs have been discovered.

Android is already a very popular platform for many devices. Once they roll out this new feature, it will make it even easier to install apps without needing to do it directly from an Android TV media streamer.

Sideload Apps easily from a Phone or PC with This App

Anyone that has had an Android Media streamer for any length of time, knows the best Android apps need to be sideloaded. An FTP app lets you browse and add apps to folders on any Android device. But you also need another FTP client app for your phone.

A very popular FTP app for browsing and moving files on remote devices is And FTP. This is the app that installs on your smartphone.

You will also need to install another FTP server app on your Android TV device and start the FTP server connection first on the Android TV device before you can connect with your phone.
Once this app launched and it has started the server, it gives you all the info you need on the screen to enter in the And FTP app to make a connection.

Once you get used to using FTP to transfer sideloaded files, it makes things much easier to load apps on your Android TV streamer.
