There Was a Time When Netflix Was The Only Streaming Service One Needed

Remember when you could dump cable and subscribe to Netflix for $8?

FREE STREAMING TV CHANNELS

Television has drastically changed from the early cord-cutting days

In the early days of cord-cutting, a Netflix streaming TV subscription was only $8/month. Their service was loaded with so many TV shows and Movies from all the major studios it felt too good to be true.

But back then, no one could have imagined that cord-cutters would have such a huge impact on the television industry like they did. Most other content providers at the time stubbornly clung to cable and satellite to distribute their content. That was until they noticed the huge number of subscribers flocking to join Netflix.

Content providers quickly realized they could make more money if they launched their own streaming TV version of Netflix featuring their own content. Especially with their income numbers dwindling year after year as more and more people chose to dump cable. So that's exactly what they did. Pulling their content from Netflix and charging their own fee for mini streaming TV channels and streaming TV services.

Fast Forward to 2021 and now we now have a large eclectic mix of content providers. Each charging anywhere from $5 to $55 a month for their streaming service. They are all hoping to entice viewers to subscribe and keep feeding the golden goose to provide an ongoing source of revenue for them each month.

Where Do We Go From Here?

There seems to be no slowing down in the number of new content providers launching their own streaming TV channels. Now it's not unreasonable to pay $50/mo or a lot more for all streaming TV content. And this is also on top of a broadband bill that has seen constant price increases every year that goes by.

An $8/mo Netflix bill is also no longer available. If you want to watch 1080p content on Netflix, now it will set you back $13.99/month. Their 4K plan is a lot more and it costs $17.99/month.

Netflix did spend many millions of dollars on its platform to provide original content that can't be seen anywhere else. This is something they had to do with the large exodus of 3rd party content leaving Netflix for a streaming channel home of their own.

This left many cord-cutters on a budget looking for Free and lower-cost streaming TV alternatives.
