How to Replace Batteries on a 2019 Nvidia SHIELD Remote Control
The newer 2019 Nividia SHIELD and SHIELD Pro comes with a much nicer remote control
At first glance, it does not look like an easy task to swap out the batteries in the 2019 Nvidia SHIELD remote. That is until you figure out how to open the hidden battery compartment.
The Nvidia SHIELD is an amazing media streamer in many ways. Build quality is among the best we've seen when it comes to media streaming hardware. And the newer style SHIELD remote fixes some of the shortcomings with the older model.
Unlike the first generation remote which came with rechargeable batteries, this model uses user-replaceable batteries. But replacing them the first time may be a bit frustrating until you learn how to remove the battery cover which is not readily apparent.
At the top of the remote hold your index finger and apply pressure while placing your other hand at the bottom of the remote while pushing the bottom remote cover towards your index finger.
The bottom remote cover should then slide up and off exposing the two alkaline remote batteries. When replacing the batteries, always use two fresh brand new AA alkaline batteries if possible.
The cover should slide right back on and snap into place. Take your time and be careful when removing and replacing the cover so you don't snap the plastic retainer piece.
So don't run out and try this until your batteries actually need to be replaced. If you are wondering how much battery life is left, go to Settings > SHIELD accessories.
Typical battery life is about a year. If you constantly hold the remote while watching TV, it won't let the remote sleep and the batteries may need to be replaced more often.
Study the above image carefully, the 2019 SHIELD remote does not really have its own battery cover. Rather, the entire bottom case of the remote acts as a cover to hide the battery compartment.
Where the 2017 standard SHIELD remote went away from rechargeable batteries and used CR2032 batteries, the newer 2019 remote uses easily found alkaline batteries.
