In 2025, 50% of U.S. Broadband Households Will Be Cord Cutters
Cord Cutters Reach Epic New Levels
More Now than Ever, Cord Cutting Continues to eat away at Cable TV Profits
If you think the last 5 years was bad for U.S. cable companies losing viewers in favor of streaming TV, the number of cord-cutters in the next five years will increase 4X as much.
The trickle of cord-cutters we talked about years earlier, has turned into a mighty torrent. Cable customers all over are realizing that streaming TV offers a much better bargain. When compared to bloated cable television packages, that are riddled full of commercials and channels no one wants to watch anymore.
Things are changing so fast that TDG, a Media Research Company had to revise their earlier prediction.
Back in 2017 the company predicted there would be somewere between 83.5 million and 87 million CATV subscribers.
This last December, that number was already at 81 million cable TV subscribers. Even lower than the 83.5 million than what they originally projected.
They lowered their projected forcast from 75.7 million and 76.7 million subscribers. In the second quarter of this year CATV subscribers hit 77-million so their current projection is right on track.
Here's what TDG had to say about this:
“For the last decade, TDG accurately anticipated the rate of legacy’s decline and the sluggish growth of vMVPDs,” TDG President and Principal Analyst Michael Greeson said in a press release about the video cord cutter forecast. “However, our 2017 forecasts underestimated the growth in cord-cutting and overestimated the uptake of vMVPDs. Beginning in 2007, our 5-year forecasts have been eerily accurate, but it was obvious that 2017 forecasts needed to be tweaked. We were within 5%, but at two years out versus five.”
The bottom line is cable TV is no longer the only game in town. Now that we as consumers have many alternatives for our television viewing, paying unrealistic over inflated prices for television is no longer an option for many.
So if you haven't yet joined the cord cutting revolution, a big new world of TV entertainment is waiting for you. While it may be out of your comfort zone, once you make the leap it will become easier to find new great content than ever before.

While cable content providers hoped that cord cutters who cut the TV cord would simply sign-up for a streaming TV equivilant which offered much the same content. Only 40% of those dumping cable TV did so.
Many choose to watch free content from channels like Pluto TV, and others and pocket the money saved. Or spend it on things that offer a far better value for their money than cable TV.
