Better Gaming With Improved Low Latency

In a recent note to Android Developers they had this to say about the low latency update:

“This is particularly useful for game and videoconferencing applications, where low latency is more important than having the best possible graphics,” the company wrote in the Android developers guide."

Improved Privacy

The Android TV OS 11 update also offers some enhanced privacy improvements. One-time permissions gives third-party apps only temporary access to the microphone and other hardware on a limited basis. Unlike before where once given permission, apps could run wild on your system.

Instant Apps

Instant Apps is a new feature for Android TV that's pretty cool. Now users instead of first downloading an app to try it out from the Google Play Store, will be able to do so without first installing the app. This is a time and resource saver. Especially if you forget to delete apps you may have installed and no are no longer using on your Android TV device.

Google also made it easier with this update for users by letting them use a Pin for Play Store purchases. Instead of requring a lengthy password to be entered each time.

Support for More Game Controllers

With OS 11 Android TV update, now both the Nintendo Switch Pro and Steam game controllers are also supported.

Also added in this update are: silent boot mode for system updates, inactivity prompts, and OEM configurable wake keys.

This update is currently being tested by Android developers with their apps. And normal users should start to see it rolled out to streaming Android TV devices like the Nvidia SHIELD over the next few months.
