Disney+ Surpasses 5 Year Goal in 8 Months

Disney+ Just Hit 60.5 Million Subscribers a little Over 4 Years Sooner Than Expected

The Disney+ Was Going To Crash and Burn Crowd Never Saw this One Coming

Disney+ Growth Explodes

On a tear Disney+ has exceeded their wildest goals when it comes to subscriber growth over the last eight months

Disney+ set a goal when they first launched to reach 60 million subscribers in five years. But they surpassed this goal in only eight months.

COVID-19 may no doubt played a part in this. With record numbers of people around the world forced to stay in their homes and away from jobs and schools. It goes to show what having too much time on your hands can do.

Here's everything playing on Disney+ at launch »

To beat the boredom, many people who's trip to Disney World was postponed due to the Theme Park closures. Did the next best thing they could. They signed up to Disney+ to watch tons of content from the Disney vault.

It also did not hurt that Disney is one of the largest entertainment companies in the industry. And their library of content is huge. And most of it is made especially for kids and families. Who were all sitting at home with no where to go for months on end and a not a lot to do except for watching TV. (Besides possibly generating the next baby boom.)

According to Decider "Bob Chapek said Tuesday during the company’s earnings call that there are now 60.5 million global subscribers to Disney+, the direct-to-consumer streaming service launched last November."

This is pretty big news for Disney, who joined the streaming partly a lot later compared to other big names like Netflix. Which in the 2nd quarter of 2020, Netflix had 192.95 million paying subscribers worldwide. (And another 250 million people sharing their mothers, brother's, sister or best friends Netflix account.) Just kidding on the last part, then again maybe not...

But it's pretty incredible that Disney+ has been able to reach their 5 year goal in only a short eight months. And it could be possible they will be able to catch up with Netflix in the next five years.
