Why Your Roku TV Might Be Turning Itself On

Has this ever happened to you? You came home and your TV was on or you were jarred awake from a deep sleep in the middle of the night because your Roku TV turned on by itself?

No, your Roku TV is not processed by an evil spirt. But these are common reasons why a Roku TV may be turning on by itself:

Batteries in the Remote - Dead or weak batteries in a remote can cause all kinds of strange behavior. Like a Roku TV that comes on by itself or won't turn off. Or it just won't respond to any commands.

Stuck Button on Roku Remote - If a button gets stuck, it can also cause a TV come on or not shut off.

HDMI or CEC - These settings on your Roku TV are another common culprit that can affect the way it interacts with different attached devices. Here are the instruction for HDMI CEC Settings for a TCL Roku TV

Internal Timer - Some televisions may have a timer accidentally enabled which can turn on the TV automatically. Check your manual if your television offers this feature. If it accidentally gets turned on your TV could turn on by itself at any time.

Unplug Devices - If you have several other devices plugged into HDMI ports on your Roku TV, try removing them one at a time to see if the problem is resolved. Then you may need to troubleshoot further the device that is causing your Roku TV to turn on by itself.

Factory Reset - If none of these fixed your television from powering on by itself, try resetting your Roku TV back to its factory settings as a last resort.

This requires adding back your WiFi info, Roku account password and login name and some subscription channels will require authentication.

The good news is your installed channels will all be there if you log in with the same linked user account.
