What is Locast?

Locast a not for profit company is a broadcast TV transmission service that is available as a Roku channel and also on other media streaming platforms. And Locast provides TV broadcasts over the Internet so there is no need to buy another device to watch live local TV from their channel or app.

While this sounds really great and all one can't help but wonder how long they will last. Their business model sounds much like Aereo who have tried this before and were quickly sued by the TV Networks and lost.

In fact, the New York Times recently wrote about this in an article about Locast.
