Nvidia SHIELD Remote App is Here
The new SHIELD TV remote app lets you finally kiss that sometimes funky SHIED remote goodbye
As great as the Nvidia SHIELD is as a media streamer, the hardware remote sometimes leaves you yearning for something better.
SHIELD TV fans are about to get their wish with the newly released SHEILD Remote app. Their new remote app only works with SHIELD TV software versions 7.1 and above so if your particular SHIELD has not yet received this update you may need to wait a little while longer.
Once your SHIELD is good to go, head on over to the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store and download Nvidia's New Remote app to control your SHIELD TV from your mobile devices.
The New SHIELD TV Remote app is pretty cool as it lets you not only control your device, you can also quickly enter long URLs when entering playlists, or typing login names and passwords to access your favorite streaming TV services.
Your days of picking up a non-responsive remote because the batteries have died are now over when you use their new mobile remote app.
NVIDIA SHIELD TV REMOTE APP FEATURES
- Faster login to GeForce NOW games
- Instant access to virtual mouse and keyboard which is easier than on-screen keyboard
- No more separate batteries to charge or buy
- Control your SHIELD TV from your favorite Apple or Android Mobile devices
Nvidia actually made two different hardware remotes for their Nvidia SHIELD. The original SHIELD TV and the current Pro come with a remote that uses rechargeable batteries. For the most part, this remote seems to be the least troublesome of the two.
The current base SHIELD TV was released in 2017 and now comes with a replaceable battery remote. It uses two CR2032 Batteries which they say should last close to a year.
In the real world, many SHIELD users are replacing batteries much more often. You can buy CR2032 batteries here on Amazon.
One thing that will kill the batteries much faster is if you like to fiddle with the remote holding it in your hand while watching TV. Set it down when watching TV and the remote will go into sleep mode making the batteries last longer.
Some users have reported their SHIELD remote lost pairing and they can no longer get it to work. If that happens, this Remote app will let you continue enjoying all the cool stuff your SHIELD can do.
Here's how to change the batteries on the 2017 Nvidia SHIELD TV
USE A FIRE STICK REMOTE ON YOUR SHIELD TV
If your Nvidia SHIELD TV remote no longer works is to use a Fire TV Stick or Fire TV remote control. You will first need to add it as another Bluetooth device but other than voice search they work really well.
Here's how to Connect your Fire Stick/TV Remote
1. On your SHIELD Settings, menus go to Add Accessories
2. You will see it searching for Bluetooth
3. Hold down the Home Button on the Fire TV Remote for 10 seconds. It will pop-up a message asking if you want to connect.
Don't let a broken remote keep you from enjoying your SHIELD. Grab the new SHIELD TV Remote app and using on your mobile phone or tablet today.
