Another Nvidia SHIELD Update OS 7.1 Rolls Out

One thing we really love about our Nvidia SHIELD is it has to be one of the most updated Android TV boxes ever made.

Introduced in May 2015, and a new updated model was released in 2017. Both models are still on the list to receive the latest Android TV OS updates.

Android OS 8.1 brings users some cool new features and enables some that was removed by Android version OS 8.0 that were no longer working.

Power Down and Restart Shortcuts are Back

While the last update removed the quick shortcut to restart or put your SHIELD to sleep, the new update will add this back by simply pressing and holding the back button when on the home screen.

You can choose to either restart or power down your SHIELD TV from the menu that pops up. A new shortcut to sleep your SHIELD has also been added by quickly tapping home and back.

New Firmware for SHIELD Accessories

  • SHIELD Controller (2017): v1.25
  • SHIELD Controller (2015): v1.96/99/3.71/0.32
  • SHIELD Remote (2017): v1.35
  • SHIELD Remote (rechargeable): v1.30

Enable NVIDIA Share

This update enables NVIDIA Share which is the same as ShadowPlay so you can take screenshots and record gameplay moments. To turn this on with Android OREO, simply go to Settings/System/Nvidia Share and enable it.

Also, something new in this update gamers will love if your TV supports it is 120Hz display mode.

This release is now being sent to early access users which are part of a Closed Preview Program. An official released version will soon follow to the rest of the SHIELD TV user base.

You can sign-up for the beta program from NVIDIA if you are interested in quicker updates for your SHIELD TV.
