Apple's Working On Something Big for Cord-Cutters

Apple's Is Working On Something Really Big for Cord-Cutters

While the Mythical Apple Television rumors have been swirling for years, there is now some real evidence that Apple may be getting ready to jump into the cord-cutting frenzy with both feet.

With all the news lately that cord-cutting is accelerating beyond cable execs wildest nightmares and seriously crunching their bottom line, it only makes sense that now the world's riches company jumps in head first.

Apple's Working On Something Big for Cord-Cutters

Up until now, Apple has been patiently waiting on the sidelines only placing their toes in the cord-cutting waters. This is all about to change very soon if Tim Cook has his way.

In a recent interview Cook said that Apple is now working on a cord-cutting project with some very talented individuals from the Television industry.

The team working on this project to launch Apple head first into the cord-cutting frenzy are
Jay Hunt, an Australian born top British TV executive.  Carol Trussell, who now is in charge of Apple’s Video Production Unit.  Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht were both two former Sony executives who are now with Apple since last June.

Cook recently said in an interview of the team
“[They] have been working on a project that we’re not really ready to share all the details of it yet, but I couldn’t be more excited about what’s going on there and we’ve got great talent in the area that we’ve sourced from different places and feel really good about what we will eventually offer,”

Industry insiders all seem to think that with Apple moving to acquire  TV content producers that are talented in making deals with content providers they may be gearing up to become another Netflix/SlingTV type streaming service provider with both video-on-demand and also some of their own original content mixed in. Maybe even live TV channels as well.

Cook went on to say

“In terms of the sort of the key catalysts and the changes, the cord cutting in our view is only going to accelerate and probably accelerate at a much faster rate than is widely thought. We’re seeing the things that we have on the periphery of this like Apple TV, units and revenue grew by very strong double digits, very, very strong double digits in Q3,”

Apple's Streaming TV Service is expected to launch, sooner than later.  When it happens, it could increase the popularity of the Apple TV platform even further. Especially since Apple would then control not only the hardware but also a big portion of the TV programming on it as well.

Apple has been in the news lately as the first company that broke the 1 Trillion dollars net worth barrier. If they could use their considerable capital to do to streaming TV what they did to the music industry and offer consumers a lower cost way to stream TV, this could be a big win for everyone.

Apple Cord-Cutters

Except for maybe Amazon, Roku, and the many other streaming TV content providers like Netflix Hulu, YouTube Live. These other companies are all trying to carve out for themselves a nice piece of streaming TV cake and the last thing they would want is Apple the 500-pound gorilla in the industry eating the entire cake by itself. Maybe there will be enough cake to go around for everyone, except for the Cable TV industry who used to have the whole cake to themselves.
