Anyone Want Some Pie? Android Pie 9.0
Android Pie, the name of the next version of the Android OS 9 will not only polish the rough edges of Android Nougat which was last year's Android 8.0 software update, it will also throw in a few added sprinkles on top as well.
If you are a fan of Android, the Operating System that powers a large portion of today's tablets, smartphones and streaming devices all over the world, then this new update may be coming soon to a device near you.
Google which owns the Android OS has been busy tweaking their OS and have now released another version. The official nickname for the latest and greatest Android 9.0 operating system will now officially be known as Pie.
Here Are Some of Android OS 9 Pie's New Features
While this update is mostly designed and released for Google's own Pixel phones and tablets, eventually it will migrate to and power many other brand Android phones, tablets and media streamers as well. These manufacturers may tweak it some, they generally stick pretty close to what Google releases.
With Android OS 9.0, Google has further honed or polished last years update. Making the operating system run smoother and better is something they typically do every other year after major changes are introduced the prior year.
While one year you may notice more dramatic changes, the following year the changes are a lot more subtle, and they tend to focus their efforts on software performance tweaks that can make Android devices run faster, or make them run more efficiently preserving battery life.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The biggest change for this year is the introduction of an AI features which will attempt to learn from user interactions with their device. For those not familiar with AI, this is machine learning or more commonly known as Artificial Intelligence.
This form of technology is starting to make its way into more and more devices which are a part of our everyday lives. It only makes sense that Google, one of the world's masters of machine learning would eventually introduce this into the Android 9 Pie Operating System.
Predictive AI will hone in on which apps a user typically opens, learning from your habits and then attempting to predict what you need to do with your device next and doing it for you. This will not only save time, it can also lower the energy usage by closing apps no longer needed making your battery last longer.
Users will still be able to manage apps themselves or let Google's AI engine manage apps for them. While just like early smart cars, we may still have some control of the steering wheel, eventually as the technology improves AI will be given more control and we may be given less and less.
In this version of Android, Google has introduced several new gestures and removed one you may use a lot. The back button is no longer there. It requires learning a new gesture to access it and Android developers will now also need to implement gestures into their apps to control navigation.
This may take some getting used and after a few hours for most users, it will become almost second nature.
There are many more features to this new Android OS 9 Pie operating system as well like better Camera Controls, Enhanced Picture HDR and HEIF support, Smarter Adaptive Brightness, Android Vitals to better control apps and more Useful Notifications.

Many SHIELD TV owners are probably wondering if their devices will be getting a nice helping of some Android Pie. Since Android 8.0 has been recently added to the SHIELD, it is very possible that SHIELD owners will also be getting some Pie added to their devices maybe even before next year.
Nvidia has been amazing at updating even their first generation media streamers with the latest version of Android.
Much more so than any other Android streaming TV box. The cheaper clone box will undoubtedly make you purchase new hardware to get the latest version of Android on their boxes.
This has been their method of operation since almost the beginning. That and drip feeding tiny incremental hardware updates like going from 2MB of Ram to 3MB of Ram. Memory chips don't cost much and it's a shame that Android streaming boxes you buy today don't all come with a minimum of 4MB of System Ram for the OS and Apps.
Ongoing operating system support is a big reason why the Nvidia SHIELD is still the number one Android box available today.
When Nvidia designed the SHIELD media steamer they also completely overbuilt it. Almost 3 years later it is still much more powerful than any of the cheaper Android clone boxes coming out of China today.
The Nvidia SHIELD is still the number one top Android box available and to this day there are none any better. If they were to add some Android OS 9 Pie, it may even make it all the more sweeter.
