From Sixty to Six Feet Under With Roku

From Sixty to Six Feet Under

The Baby Boomer generation is now retiring in mass. As they prepare to enter the final phase of their lives, soon many seniors will be faced with the reality that their careers which they spent a large portion of their lives working on and perfecting is over.

Besides dealing with one of the most difficult transitions of their life, the loss of the day to day interactions of a social network of workplace friends and acquaintances, many which they may have worked with their entire life, will also have a large impact.

Many seniors may also be reeling with the loss of friends or loved ones or those who are facing life altering illnesses like cancer, diabetes, strokes, heart attacks and more. This will also have a huge impact on their lives.

A lot of retirees and seniors may be ill-equipped to deal with this because our culture has trouble talking about and confronting unpleasant subjects. We would much rather chat about the latest movies, football scores, or other things that are a hundred times more pleasant.

My father was a proud and fiercely independent man. Watching him progress through his final years, the one thing he said that struck me the hardest was: "I feel so useless." He was physically unable to do even the simple things he once loved when he became dependent on us to care for him.

As a society, we will need to collectively brain storm to come up with ways to make our senior family members, friends and neighbors find new meaning and purpose as they go through what for many could end up being one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

Hopefully, we can find ways to add brightness and bring a little more cheer to those among us whose lives may be dull,  filled with loneliness or shattered by pain.

Roku Channel Developers

Building Roku Channels that benefit seniors and boomers could be very popular. The baby boomer generation represents nearly 20% of the American public. Developing Roku channels that appeal to Seniors and especially this generation and helps them deal with some of the issues they may be facing can give you a large audience hungry for your content.

It's the final chapter of another great generation and it's up to all of us how well it will be written.
