Suspicious Activity Punisher on Netflix

Suspicious Activity Marvel Punisher on Netflix

This email announcing the release of their latest Netflix Original Series Marvel's Punisher, will have some freaked out!

In this day of fake "Your Netflix Account has Been Hacked emails," or other phishing schemes to try and obtain your password to Netflix or credit card information. Netflix's latest marketing strategy may have unintended consequences of either scaring away security aware members into not clicking the link, or may be pure marketing genius. This is one email you will not soon forget.

Here is one very real example of a Netflix Scam Email going around that hopes to get your Netflix Password and Credit card information.

The latest legitimate email arrived with some of the subject line blacked out. The body itself contains no text just a picture that looks like genuine typed email which has its text getting blacked out quickly and finally morphing into the first image shown above. The Play button link takes you to the Netflix website to start watching their new Marvel Punisher TV series.

We double checked and confirmed the link is genuine. It in fact does go to Netflix and will indeed let you begin watching season one of the brand new Marvel Punisher TV series.

This entire process happens so fast, we needed to reload the email several times and take screenshots just to see what the email would have said and transcribed it below.

Subject: Suspicious activity detected  Marvel on Netflix series

Hello,

We have recently detected strange behavior within our algorithm, which is currently recommending you watch a non-existent show on Netflix. The addition of a new Marvel show on Netflix is not something we take lightly.

Just to be safe, we'd like to confirm this activity was authorized by you or that you may be interested in a new arrival from Marvel. The truth must be taken.

Please visit us at https://netflix.com/ThePunisher to understand firsthand what this means for your Netflix account and your weekend plans. We do not believe this update is connected to a conspiracy of any kind and hope you are a fan of surprises.

The email by itself is easy enough to understand and sounds legit, except it morphs so fast into the final picture you only have time to read little bits and pieces like "recently detected strange behavior within our algorithm," hence the reason for alarm bells going off.

This is what quickly happens when you open the email,  transforming into the first image shown above

Fortunately, this was not a scam just a brilliant marketing ploy to get you to think about their new Marvel Punisher series on Netflix.

Just last week, Netflix also sent an email announcing the trailer of their new upcoming Punisher original series (you can watch it here).

Marvel's The Punisher. 2017 TV-MA 1 Season. A former Marine out to punish the criminals responsible for his family's murder finds himself ensnared in a military conspiracy. Starring: Jon Bernthal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ben Barnes. Genres: TV Shows, Crime TV Shows, TV Action & Adventure. Creator: Steve Lightfoot.

Netflix has been spending a ton of money on original content programming. Some of their shows like Stranger Things and a few others have been as good as anything you will find from major studios.

Now they want to be sure we watch it. This email will make sure many of us will. We added the new Punisher series to our watch list after we made sure the link did in fact go to Netflix's site, only after putting on fresh underwear.
