Amazon to Issue In-App Store Refunds
Amazon Class Action Lawsuit Nets Unexpected Reward
mkvXstream has learned that Amazon has been sending out emails to customers with children under the age of 18 who made in-app purchases.
If you have not received this email, and have a child that made in-app purchases not authorized by an adult, be sure to contact Amazon by May 28, 2018 to claim your refund.
This is a copy of the actual letter that was sent out:
Dear Amazon Appstore customer,
You may be eligible for a refund.
Our records show that your account has been charged for “in-app purchases,” which are purchases of items you can buy within apps using actual money. We are offering refunds for qualifying in-app purchases in compliance with a court order in Federal Trade Commission v. Amazon.com, Inc. (Case No. C14-1038-JCC, W.D. Wash.) and because we want you to be satisfied with your Amazon Appstore experience.
In-app purchases were made from your account between November 2011 and June 3, 2014. If any of these in-app purchases was the result of a purchase made by a child under the age of 18 and the charge was not authorized by you—and you haven’t already received a refund for that charge—you might be eligible for a refund from Amazon.
To request a refund, please follow the steps below:
• Use this link to sign in to your Amazon account and review your qualifying in-app purchases: https://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/refund-orders/in-apprefund/. If you would rather not use the link, you can find this message through Your Account on Amazon.com. Look in the Message Center under “Important Messages.”
• Review the displayed instructions and select any eligible in-app purchases that were made by a child under the age of 18 that you did not authorize.
• Click “Submit.”
Amazon will review your request and may contact you for additional information if necessary to determine whether an identified charge qualifies for a refund. All refund requests must be submitted no later than 5/28/18.
If you have any questions or need further assistance with your refund request, please Contact Amazon. Amazon wants you and your family to have a great experience with the Amazon Appstore. We offer a wide range of age-appropriate content and include parental controls on all Amazon devices so that you can easily manage your kids’ access to Appstore content. You can learn more about in-app purchases and Parental Controls at Amazon Help & Customer Service.
Thank you.
