Ambilight - For AppleTV

 Ambilight - For AppleTV

If you have never seen an Ambilight equipped TV, prepare to be completely blown away. Ambilight is nothing more than two strips of LEDs that mount to either side of the TV which change colors through a controller that interfaces with software. Phillips TV started this trend and built them into select models. It was not long before a few enterprising individuals figured out a way to make it work with a media player like the first generation AppleTV. The home made, low cost solution works even better than the original version.

By flashing the color of light onto a wall (preferably white) to coordinate with what is playing on TV. It actually extends the viewing area beyond your screen and helps reduce eyestrain.
If your handy with a soldering iron and tweaking your own software.
It uses inexpensive parts from eBay and can be powered by a Crystalbuntu and an XBMC equipped 1st generation AppleTV.  It uses a low cost general purpose Arduino controller, along with ultra-bright LEDs. he video below shows the amazing the dramatic effect it has on the viewing area.

Ambilight looks great, will totally impress your friends and is a great addition to your home theater.
