It's been a long time coming, HBO Now is the new standalone streaming service that was rolled out by HBO in April. Instead of needing a cable or satellite subscription, Roku, Apple iOS and Apple TV users will be able to subscribe to HBO Now and receive the same exact same content as cable subscribers.

HBO Go - HBO Now

According to a recent report from one of our favorite sites MacRumors , here is why HBO CEO, Richard Plepler said they choose Apple initially as their primary HBO Now provider.

"Since a large majority of Apple users were also their primary customers of the HBO Go service which required a cable or satellite account. HBO thought it only fitting to offer their new service to Apple users first."

Apple iOS users and Apple TV owners can subscribe for $14.99 a month. While this price is more than what cable customers pay for their monthly HBO subscription, it still remains to be seen if streamers will be willing to step up to the plate and pay the price.

HBO seems to be betting they will.

HBO Now Available on Roku

Their new streaming service is available as a stand alone service is also on many other platforms like Apple TV, Vudu and Android media players.
