Roku OS9 Adds Some Cool New Features

Roku OS9 Adds Voice Control Search, Volume Leveling and More!

The Roku Newsroom announced today that the company is getting ready to roll out some great new features for Roku owners.

Roku keeps innovating and adding new features to make their media players better and better.

Google Assistant

One of the biggest additions is the ability for Roku users to use their microphone enabled Roku remotes to perform voice-controlled searches using Google Assistant. This will also let you load channels, mute the sound on your TV, control the volume and power down your television or even change inputs and television channels if you use a TV antenna attached to your television.

This new OS9 Roku software will integrate Roku standalone media players with their Roku TV Wireless speakers and let the software work together with both devices. (Note: Roku Wireless TV Speakers are available for pre-order for delivery in mid-November.)

Speech Clarity

One feature many with bad hearing will appreciate is the new speech clarity feature which comes with the Roku Wireless TV Speakers. This will make spoken dialog in movies and TV shows much easier to understand. This can be enabled by using the * Star menu on a Roku Remote when the Roku TV Wireless Speakers are used with your Roku media player.

Auto Sound Leveling

Another feature that will be most welcome is Auto Sound Leveling. This will keep the sound from blaring at you when the commercials come on. This is something that will keep the sound at a constant volume.

Your television may already have this as an option. Look in your TV Sound options menu for something called Steady Sound and make sure it's turned on if you have it.

OS 8.2 For Roku Smart TVs

These same features will be available on Roku Smart TVs that will let them integrate seamlessly with Roku TV Wireless Speakers.

Spotify and Pandora Premium Support

Two of the most popular music services which are home to 35+ Million Songs are fully integrated with your Roku. Use Spotify Connect if you have Spotify Premium to control it from a laptop, tablet or phone or with your Roku Remote to enjoy premium high-quality ad-free listening.

Pandora Premium is also available to create your own unique playlists or search for artists, songs and more using Google Assistant.

Add the Pandora Roku Channel Here!

Spotify will be available once Roku OS9 is launched early in November and on Roku Televisions in early 2019.
