New Software Updates Available for New and Original Roku Boxes
New Roku Software Update 4.9 Build 5060
The Roku team has been hard at work improving the streaming experience on the Roku platform. In that spirit, they have released Roku software 4.9 build 5060 for Roku 2, Roku LT and new Roku HD players.
For users, they fixed a number of bugs and improved platform stability. They also made several behind the scenes improvements to enable some exciting upcoming channels.
For developers, they added support for in-app subscriptions. Additionally, they enabled the ability to display closed captioning for any developer who adds SMPTE Timed Text closed captioning to their MP4, Smooth Streaming or HLS video streams.
The update will be pushed automatically to all Roku 2, Roku LT and new Roku HD (model# 2500) players over the next 48 hours and Roku Streaming Sticks next week. To update manually, simply select Settings > Software update > Check now on your Roku player.
Roku Software 3.1 for Original Roku Players
Roku released an update for original Roku players. Roku software version 3.1 build 1017 includes the following fixes:
This version fixes some issues that can cause freezes and crashes in Hulu Plus.
They improved SSDP device discover support used by mobile applications, including Roku’s iPhone app and Android app, to find and connect to Roku players on home networks.
They also added a few other minor bug fixes.
Roku Software 4.7 for Newer Roku Players
Roku 2, Roku LT or new Roku HD owners, also had a recent software update released. Version 4.7 contains several “under the hood” improvements and fixes:
This new software contains support channels that use Microsoft Smooth Streaming.
Improvements were made to support several new partner channels that will launch in 2012.
This latest update also offers added stability for the new Roku HD player, and improved Roku device discovery on Roku iOS and Android mobile apps
How to Install Roku Software Update
Roku software updates are automatically pushed to all connected Roku players. If you did not get the software update already, select Settings > Software update > Check now from your Roku player.
