Stop Roku From Installing Pay Channels

Roku's default screensaver may sometimes show advertisements for pay channels. If you accidentally hit the OK button when the screen saver is on a channel, it my install the channel that it is advertising.



Block Roku Pay Channels from Installing


This problem is even worse for those using a Harmony remote because to Wake the Roku from sleep mode it sends the OK command. If it is on the screensaver, it will install what ever channel may be on.


Avoid Installing Unwanted Roku Channels


Turn off the screensaver, or change it to a screen saver of your choice so it is not on the default one. To change the Roku screen saver Press the "HOME" button on your remote to go to the main screen. Press the up or down button and choose "Settings". Choose "Screensaver" to go to the Screensaver menu. Once you are in the "Screensaver menu" do the following to change your current screensaver or set how long it will wait until it becomes active.


Changing the Screensaver


Choose Screensaver then select any screensaver listed, you can also select Preview for a demo. If that screensaver has additional settings are available, you can also choose "Custom settings" to make any adjustments to the chosen screensaver. Select Preview to view the results of any changes you may have made. When done making changes, highlight the screensaver name and press (OK) on your remote to save it as your new screensaver. A check mark will appear next to the screensaver that is currently installed.


Setting Screensaver Delay


Chose the Wait time which is how long your Roku will wait before starting the screensaver, or you can choose to turn off the screensaver completely. Press the (OK) button on your remote to save your changes.

Add a Pin to Install Roku Channels

This is a very handy feature to prevent unwanted channels, or pay channels from being installed until a pin is entered. This can be especially useful if you don't want your kids or spouse installing Roku Porn channels. It can also be useful if someone should accesses your Roku account information. This will prevent them from adding pay channels so your account can't be charged. At least until they figure out how to disable, or change your pin. Channels that require a separate account payment outside of Roku will still require a pin for their channels to be added.

Adding a pin only blocks others from adding channels but it won't filter or block channels from being visible from the Roku channel store. When you want to add any channels or make purchases it will first ask you for your pin if these options are selected.

To Add a Pin to Your Roku Do This:
    Visit my.roku.com from a computer or a smartphone.
    If you haven't logged in already, you will first need to sign in to your Roku account. Select Update under PIN Preference. Under this menu there are three choices and choose from one of the following options:
    1. Always require a PIN to make purchases and to add items from the Channel Store.
    2. Always require a PIN to make purchases.
    3. A PIN is not required to make any purchase or add any item from the Channel Store.
    If you choose either of the first two and you never have created a PIN, you will be asked to enter a four-digit number in the PIN box and then will be asked to select the Verify PIN field for confirmation.
    If you previously have entered a PIN, enter your PIN in the "Verify PIN" field. You must then Select 'Save Changes" and Agree to the Roku terms.


Anytime you want to update your PIN to a new number, you can log back into your Roku account and follow the steps outlined above.



Remove Your Credit Card from Roku


To Remove Payment Information:

1. Log into your Roku account.
2. Under the Payment Method section, Click Update.
3. At the bottom of the page, click Remove payment method.
