Quadcopters to make your GoPro camera fly

Ever since action junkies strapped GoPro HD video cameras on their helmets, creating amazing videos of incredible death defying stunts their popularity has exploded. For the rest of us that like our feet firmly and safely on the ground, an entire new industry of unmanned aerial vehicles or drones more commonly known as Quadcopters sprung up almost over night. Quadcopters can lift your GoPro camera hundreds of feet off the ground and take amazing videos without risking life or limb.

For several years now, GoPro has been building light weight HD Video cameras for thrill seekers. The latest trend is to loft them into the air by strapping them onto an unmanned aerial radio controlled drone and taking aerial videos. This opens up an entire new world of possibilities, like the video below of a Multicopter drone pilot flying a Quadcopter over Niagara Falls. This video has gone viral and has already received over 1.5 million views.

Best Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for GoPro

When it comes to choosing an unmanned aerial vehicle to loft your GoPro into the sky, there are a wide range of options. From radio controlled Planes, gliders, single rotor Helicopters, and multiple rotor Multicopters. By far the easiest to fly and most popular aerial vehicle to carry a GoPro camera is a Quadcopter.

Quadcopters are popular for aerial photography for several reasons:

Stable Platform - Single rotor helicopters have more vibration. Multicoptors often have 4, 6 and even 8 rotors and offer a more stable platform for your camera. This means less camera shake and better quality video. This can be reduced even further with the use of a balancer and balancing your props.

Easy to Fly - Radio controlled Quadcopters are much easier to fly than RC Planes and Helicopters. You wouldn't want to risk crashing your expensive GoPro camera if you became disorientated. This can easily happen to beginners with regular helicopters or planes when flying towards or away from their radio transmitter.

More Lifting Power - Multicopters can hold more weight due to the power distribution and their multiple motors. Larger more powerful motors can also further increase load carrying capacity.

Rugged - Multicopter aircraft by design are stronger and more crash resistant than fixed wing Planes and single rotor Helicopters.

Return to Base GPS - A great feature that can be optionally added or is already included in some of the higher quality models like the DJI Phantom, is a return to base GPS switch. If for some reason you fly your aircraft out of sight, or it loses connection with the radio receiver simply flip a switch and it will return back to where it took off by an onboard GPS. It's a good idea to attach a label that has your phone number along with $50 to $100 reward as cheap insurance in case you would ever lose your Quadcopter.
